Giuseppe Di Miceli is the son of Vincenzo Di Miceli and Lucia Gristina, named after his paternal grandfather. He is born in their home in the San Leonardo quarter of Corleone on 26 December 1859.
Giuseppe, a 26 year old bricklayer, marries the 19 year old Leoluchina Cascio in 1886. It is the first marriage for either of them. According to the marriage publication, Giuseppe's parents are both still living: Vincenzo is listed as age 56, and an impiegato, or clerk.
Giuseppe and Leoluchina have at least five children: Lucia (1888), two sons named Vincenzo (1890 and 1892), Girolamo (1895), and Gaetano (1898).
Lucia is born 18 January 1888 in Corleone, and baptized on 21 January. Her godparents are Leolucas Piazza and Pascha Ajello.
Lucia dies at eight months of age on 24 September 1888.
The first son named Vincenzo, after his paternal grandfather, is born 2 January 1890 and baptized five days later. His godparents are Costantino Lombardo and Lucia Frisella, a married couple.[1]
He is presumed to have died before his brother is born in 1892.
It appears the di Micelis either visit or immigrate to New York, at least temporarily, where their son Vincenzo is baptized.
In among the San Martino records from Corleone is a Certificato di Battesimo, mailed to them from Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine, 447 East 115th Street, New York, USA. It certifies that Vincenzo Di Miceli, son of Giuseppe Di Miceli and Leorochina (Leoluchina Cascio) was born 26 October 1892[2] and baptized 8 November 1892. His godparents are Michele Califfo and Marietta Recuo.
The records that follow all indicate Corleone births and baptisms, suggesting the family was only living in New York temporarily.
Their son, Hieronymus (Girolamo) Di Miceli is born 28 March 1895 and baptized on 9 April. Godparents are Joannes La Terro and Vincentia Tortorici.
The next year, the Di Micelis stand as godparents to Joanna Cascio, daughter of Antonino Cascio and Catharina Ragusa.
Their son Cajetanus (Gaetano) is born 27 November 1898 and baptized 4 December. His godparents are Leolucas Piaza and Pascha Aiello.
